The young star HD 100546 in the southern constellation of Musca

This chart shows the position of the young star HD 100546 in the southern constellation of Musca (The Fly). Most of the stars that are visible to the unaided eye from a clear and dark site are shown. The star HD 100546 is surrounded by a ring of dust where a planet appears to be in the process of formation. This star is a little too faint to see with the unaided eye, but can be picked up easily in binoculars. The planets and the dust ring cannot be seen in small telescopes.
