Spectrum of GRB 060614

The spectrum of the host galaxy of the gamma-ray burst GRB 060614 shows the presence of several nebular emission lines, including the emission from Hydrogen (Halpha and Hbeta). These lines are due to gas which is heated by the intense ultraviolet flux coming from hot, massive stars, and therefore indicate that active star formation is taking place in the galaxy. The rate at which stars are forming, once normalized to the galaxy luminosity, is comparable to that of other long-duration GRB host galaxies.
