ESO Council representatives next to the plaque commemorating the ELT time capsule

At a ceremony held on 15 October 2023, a group of ESO Council members led by Rafael Bachiller (centre right) and Jan Buriánek (centre left) installed a commemorative plaque on the wall where the ELT time capsule is buried. ESO’s Director General Xavier Barcons (left) and ESO’s ELT Programme Manager Roberto Tamai (right) were also present. The time capsule, which commemorates ESO staff, science, technology and cooperation between ESO and Chile, was sealed at the telescope’s first-stone ceremony, in 2017, and buried on its concrete on 13 October 2023.
