ATTRACT initiative for innovative sensing and imaging technologies

This image shows the ATTRACT logo superimposed on one of the 24 16-million pixel detectors of the Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) second generation instrument on ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT). MUSE is an innovative 3D spectrograph with a wide field of view, providing simultaneous spectra of numerous adjacent regions in the sky.

The technological developments behind MUSE, which allow exploration of the Universe in three dimensions, are being brought to bear against cancer, one of the leading cause of death worldwide. This project is one of 170 breakthrough ideas which will each receive €100,000 from ATTRACT to develop technologies that have the potential to change society.

ATTRACT is a Horizon 2020 research and innovation project funded by the European Union and backed by a consortium of 9 partners, including ESO.
