The Cherenkov Telescope Array

The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) — an initiative to build the next generation ground-based very high energy gamma-ray observatory. The project involves over 32 countries and over 210 research institutes, with over 1000 scientists and engineers expected to work on its initiation and subsequent operations. With its unprecedented energy coverage and angular resolution it will provide astronomers a deep insight into our high-energy Universe. The CTA has decided to start negotiations with the two sites — Aar in Namibia and ESO’s Paranal–Armazones site in Chile — keeping Leoncito in Argentina as a third option.
