Raw image from VIMOS
A raw image coming straight from the VIMOS instrument on the VLT. The images taken with astronomical instruments are always in intensity scale: the information on the colours is obtained by taking exposures through different glass filters. The camera contains four independent detectors, with gaps between them. The top-right quadrant show the three galaxies NGC 6769, 6770 and 6771. This raw image, combined with many others, was used to produce the iconic view of this galaxy triplet (eso0413a).
