Spectrum of the distant galaxy MS 1512-cB58 (detail)

An enlargement of a small wavelength region that shows the full resolution and extreme wealth of information contained in the spectrum of this faint object. This image is observed at full resolution (434.8 - 443.0 nm), with two dozen Lyman-alpha absorption lines (indicated by red marks) arising from intervening intergalactic clouds indicated.
