Artist impression of the ELT dome

Artist's impression of the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) on its future location atop Cerro Armazones, in the Chilean Andes. The ELT, with a primary mirror of 39 metres will be the largest optical/infrared telescope in the world — the world's biggest eye on the sky. The design for the ELT shown here is preliminary.
