Path of 2019 total solar eclipse
On 2 July 2019 a total solar eclipse passed over ESO’s La Silla observatory, as well as other areas of Chile and Argentina. This animation shows the path of the Moon's shadow during the eclipse as it approached and passed over South America, until it intersected the Earth’s shadow and vanished into the night.
