The ELT instruments’ platform

This artist’s impression shows the support structure of ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), currently under construction in the Atacama Desert, Chile. The main structure surrounding the ELT telescope supports the optics and the instruments during astronomical observations and keeps the telescope stable under all conditions, including in high winds and during earthquakes. The platform is a part of the azimuth structure which will host the ELT’s scientific instruments that collect and process light from cosmic objects.
