VLT X-Shooter 2010 — E

X-shooter, is a new multi wavelength spectrograph at ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) on Cerro Paranal in the Chilean Andes. It is the first of the second-generation instruments at the VLT. Designed with three arms, X-shooter covers the spectrum of blue, visible and near-infrared light in one exposure, allowing astronomers to observe a range of cool and distant astronomical objects quickly and with great detail.  X-shooter was built by a consortium of Danish, French, Italian, and Dutch institutes in conjunction with ESO.
