The stellar nursery IC 2944 in the constellation of Centaurus
This chart shows the large southern constellation of Centaurus (The Centaur). Most of the stars that can be seen in a dark sky with the unaided eye are marked. The locations of the star formation region IC 2944 and the associated star cluster IC 2948 are indicated with a red circle. The cluster is easy to see in a small telescope, but the very faint gas clouds are much more of a challenge.
