This visible-light wide-field image of the region around the COSMOS field was created from photographs taken through red and blue filters and forming part of the Digitized Sky Survey 2. The extent of the COSMOS field, one of the most studied parts of the sky with telescopes on the ground and in space, is marked with a blue square. The total field of view of this picture is approximately 3.3 degrees across.
