Researchers setting up the OASIS project container at ESO’s Paranal Observatory
The OASIS project enjoys a privileged spot on the mountainsides of ESO’s Paranal Observatory in Chile’s Atacama Desert, less than 500 metres away from the Very Large Telescope. Here, OASIS will see more clear nights than almost anywhere else in the world, giving researchers an exceptional window to track turbulence in the atmosphere. This project, operated by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), aims to observe the influence earthquakes on the seafloor have on atmosphere turbulence, and ideally show that this technology could provide an early warning system for tsunamis.
